Otherwise, darkness envelops much of the state when the sun sets each night. Portland, not surprisingly, leads the way in terms of light pollution in the state, but Salem, Bend, Eugene and Medford also have their fair share. The lights of the main metro areas across Oregon make urban stargazing a perpetual disappointment. When looking at an Oregon light pollution map, it quickly becomes clear that, while there are several pockets of serious light pollution across the state, there’s also an abundance of dark places.
